Button Generator with Photoshop Action
This is a Photoshop Action that makes a perfect round button from any JPG image. The round mask is in the center of the image, so that area will be transformed into a button. The action doesn't save the image, the layers are not rasterized so you can easily change the layer style settings.
You can download this cool button generator for free and stat to create your own customized buttons in seconds. The button maker making process is well explained so I consider the action easy to use.
How to Use a Photoshop Action
Download the ZIP file that contains a TXT file containing the license and the general info and 1 ATN file. Go to the Window Menu and choose Actions. On the right top corner of the Actions Box you see a list with options, choose Load Actions from this list and load the ATN file.
Scale Layer Effects
This action was made using an image of 400x400 px size. So all the Button layer styles are customized for this size. If you have any other size and you don't like how your button looks like, you can either change the setting by hand or you can go to Layer, Layer Style, Scale Effects.
If you have an image of 800x1200 px size, the circle will have a diameter of approximate 800 px, that means double than the original, so at Scale Effects you will input 200%.
If you have an image of 200x800 px size, the circle will have a diameter of approximate 200 px, that means half than the original, so at Scale Effects you will input 50%.
So always compare the smallest size between the height and the width of the original (400 px) and the height and the width of your image. The scale effect formula would be: (your smallest image size)/400*100=(scale effect percent)
Background Layer
For the action to work, you have to open your image (JPG, BMP - image file extensions that work with this action) in Photoshop. You can see that by default the image is in a layer called Background, that is partially locked. For this action to work properly, the only layer must be this Background Layer. So you can change the image size, adjust the brightness /contrast, adjust the colors, etc as long as the Background Layer remains the only layer.
Add Save Operation to this Action
You can add another operation to this action, by choosing Start Recording. For example, at the end of the action, start recording and go to File, Save and Save the image as a PNG file. The image will be saved with transparency. Press Stop Recording.
